Word O' the Week:

Princock: [prin-kok] A conceited young man.

Soph Lit:

Today in class we examined poems, rap and Dr. Seuss. We focused on the beat and sounds of words. The foot, and meter of a poem was kicking all over class today.

Next, I played some phat beats and asked you to write a series of poems that matched the sound. More than one of you mentioned that we should do this everyday; I guess that was your indirect way of telling me that you enjoyed class.

BIG REMINDER:

Class discussion/deconstruction of The Wasteland on Friday. This class will only be as interesting as you make it- so please do your best to have whatever is needed to explain your section to the class. I am greatly looking forward to it.

WOS:

We finished Act 5 today in class. We will be having a review game on Friday, and the test on Monday.

We will be spending most of next week on Shakespeare's Sonnets.

Brit Lit:

Today in class we read and discussed the poetry of William Blake. We focused on sound, meter and imagery.

For HW, please read the next three William Blake poems. Please be prepared to discuss them in class Friday.

Warm Weather Warning.

A warm friendly reminder. As the weather continues to improve, often grades head in the other direction. Please continue to focus 100% and as always, end in greatness.

I will be after-school if any senior needs to make up missing work from Tuesday. It continues to be your responsibility to ask for missing work due to absence. Please feel free to check in with me to see if you are missing any assignments.

Soph Lit:

HW:
Please continue to research your part of The Wasteland. Today in class I gave you some time to research this online. Here is a link that I found with some good information.

http://world.std.com/~raparker/exploring/thewasteland/explore.html

The painting depicted gives you a good "sense" of the poem. Feel free to use this in your lesson to the class.

Note: Please be mindful of your responsibilty as a student when using any online information. As you are well aware, information found online is not always correct, nor always appropriate for school. Please be responsible and aware of where you go online.

WOS:

Plan on having a unit test this Friday.

Shakespeare Workshop

After the performance of Romeo and Juliet, my Shakespeare class participated in acting activities on stage with the cast.

Brit Lit:

HW: Read the next 3 R. Burns poems. Do ONE of the following:
Answer questions 1-3 at the end of each poem.
Write a poem about about a small unnoticed thing or event. Please write this with a direct accent (Scottish, wooosta, Boston, modern teenage vernacular, etc)

WOS:

Today in class you shared your own "gross" magic stew. We then reviewed act 4 and had a short quiz on it. Please make sure to see me if you missed it and arrange a make-up day.

We started Act 5. Some of our discussion today was centered around what "may" happen.

I also passed back your papers- so see me if you did not get yours back.

Brit Lit:

If you were not in school due to the mass illness inflicting the senior class, please make sure that you still have your poem that was assigned last night. It is unfortunate that you were all sick on such a wonderful day. I hope you all feel better soon...

Soph Lit:

Today, we went outside to enjoy the heat, and to read the poetry that you brought in. I asked you to each pick your favorite line and write it on a post it note. Then, in small groups you had to connect three different notes on the white board. High expectations resulted in impressive results. You were able to connect Shakespeare and Poe. As Lord Vader might say: Most impressive..... Below is a picture from group one.

HW: Continue to research your part in the Wasteland. Reminder- these are due Friday. I will try and squeeze some Internet time in on Thursday for those of your without the intertubes at home. Please note- the Internet is NOT a requirement. Good ol' fashion books can be a wonderful resource. Often better than the misinformation online. Imagine- finding information from books...
