A Block:
We discussed good and evil. I broke you into two teams and we debated the topic: Is Man/woman inherently evil?
C Block:
We missed class again today due to MCAS testing. We will hit the ground running with Lord of the Flies on Monday.
This Blog was set up as another way that I can communicate with you about my class. Check back for word of the week, daily assignments, and class notes. Please add your email to receive an email of each posting.

Anyone that was ready to go recited their 10 lines from Macbeth.

I told you my ghost story from when I was teaching in Ireland.
HW: Look over the lines and be ready to recite them on Monday if you did not go today. Also, look over the Shakespeare language tricks. I smell a quiz early next week.

Comp. Lit. II:
Today:
I introduced the novel Lord of the Flies.
We took notes on William Golding:
Raised to be a scientist
drawn to Anglo-Saxon poetry
Joined the royal navy in 1940
British
Published novel in 1954.
Introduced concept of good and evil. Discussed where does evil come from. Are we born good or evil, or are we influenced by things in our lives? We will be having a class debate on this topic on Friday.
A Block: We read ch 1.
We looked at the importance of light and darkness in the novel and examined how each is used. Please be aware of this as we read.
Piggy is an awful nickname. We shared bad nicknames, including some of mine growing up.
C Block: Journal Prompt: If you could only pack 10 things in a suitcase, to be used for one year on a deserted island, what would you pack. For each, please explain the significance.
We broke into small groups and you decided on your ten master objects that you as a group will use in future journal prompts.
We crashed a plane and wrote about it in our journals. :-)

Today:
Journal Prompt: Macbeth is about to get three new prophecies from the witches. What three parts of the future would you predict? How would each specifically impact the play? 1 page
I shared a link that was reported last night:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/news/10706403/Man-texts-Gumtree-fraud-entire-works-of-Shakespeare.html
We took a quiz on act III.
We looked at act 3, sc 5 and debated whether Shakespeare wrote this scene. Many believe that this was added to support the character on Hecate.
We read/acted act 4, sc1 and stopped before the moment of final suspense.
I broke you into small groups and asked you to make your own 2014 stew. Each group needed 20 ingredients.
I made Friday as the optional 1st day to recite your learned Macbeth lines. You may also go on Monday. I introduced the Shakespeare challenge extra credit. Please see me if you would like one for Thursday. You may trade them, but if I give you one you need to at least try it.
